At the Broome Camp School we promote a positive learning atmosphere by empowering the students to critically reflect on group and individual performance.
Participating in the following activities highlights this;
Problem solving, team building and cooperation games, duties and rosters and dorm competitions, concerts and drama activities, challenge / low ropes activities and climbing activities.
- Self-acceptance and respect of self.
All students who stay at the Broome Camp School are encouraged to develop initiative, responsibility, ethical discernment, openness to learning and a sense of personal meaning and identity.
Participating in the following activities highlights this;
Problem solving, team building, low ropes course, dormitory competitions, developing group duties and rules, warm fuzzies, leadership activities.
- Respect and concern for others and their rights.
The Broome Camp School helps to provide encouragement to students to be caring and compassionate, to be respectful of the rights of others, and to find constructive ways of managing conflict. This includes the right to learn in a friendly and non-coercive environment.
Participating in the following activities highlights this;
Cooperative living in dormitory style accommodation, developing group rules and duties, problem solving and team building, challenge activities such as rock climbing and roping.
- Social and civic responsibility.
Students are encouraged to participate in democratic processes, to value diversity of cultural expression, to respect legitimate authority, to promote social justice and to support the use of research for the improvement of the quality of life.
Participating in the following activities highlights this;
Cooperative living in dormitory style accommodation, developing group rules and responsibilities, team building and problem solving activities, concerts, drama and role playing, Aboriginal Education cultural tours, tours of fire and police station.
- Environmental responsibility
The Broome Camp School staff is committed to develop in students an appreciative awareness of the interdependence of all elements of the environment, including humans and human systems. Through activities and tours held in the unique environment of the Broome Camp school, we encourage students to respect and have concern for Australia’s natural and cultural heritage and for forms of resource use that are regenerative and sustainable.
Participating in the following activities highlights this;
Local industry tours of pearling and farming, Aboriginal Cultural tours, use of camp school grounds, beach education, reef walks, Broome museum tours, local historical tours, outdoor education activities.
